With the success of Barrymore's Dream on DVD and the upcoming film debut of Robert Alaniz's third Sole Production Bitterblue on the horizon, it was only a matter of time before people would be wanting a second or first look at Alaniz's first local film effort Timeserver. Finally, Timeserver, Alaniz's pyschological mind-bender will make it's DVD debut in January 2007.

Filmed on location in Frankfort, Illinois on a micro-budget of only $8,000.00, Timeserver was one of the first southside independent films of it's kind, giving birth to Sole Productions and successfully opened the doors to local people interested in giving "Hollywood" a try. It features the film debut of Gary Gow in the leading role as Adam Taylor, the heartless memorabilia dealer, Gary Sugarman as Todd Hogan, Adam's ruthless, but cowardly rival and Jodi London as Kelly Wells, the handicapped woman who wouldn't let her tragic past stop her from making a better future.

The DVD will feature the FINAL cut of the film which very few people have actually seen. "When we premiered the film in October of 2004, we were so pressured to get it done that the version we showed was actually NOT the script I had written," says Director/Writer Robert Alaniz. "It was a version I had to show due to compromises and for many reasons. The film on DVD will be the way it was meant to be. Uncut and complete."

Keep watching the web site for the official release date!

The Show Goes On!

March 28, 2005

After a successful showing at the Kansas Street Grill in downtown Frankfort, Timeserver will now head for Film Festivals. We are in the process of looking into the festivals that accept Digital Video entries. This will take some time but we are looking forward for the opportunity to show the film to a wider audience. In addition to that, we are also looking into another showing locally (Frankfort / New Lenox) or in the Joliet area where Timeserver first premiered last October. If you have not already seen the movie and are still interested in catching it, keep checking the website for updates!

The Director's Cut - A Note from Writer / Director Robert Alaniz:

When I first wrote Timeserver, it had a very dark edge to it. The story was very adult oriented and included strong language. I wrote the script with Hollywood in mind, never thinking I would actually shoot the film. But when that happened, and casting began, I realized that there was going to have to be some adjustments made to the script so that people of all ages could see the movie.

So some scenes in the film were shot two ways. One keeping true to the original script and the other with milder language. The version that was shown at the Rialto Square Theatre and the first and second run of the Marcus Theatres was the "milder" PG-13 version.

Now that everyone involved with the production has had the opportunity to see that version, we are now in the process of setting up a showing of the Director's Cut. This version will be true to the original concept of the film's script and will include a couple of scenes not seen in the other version. If it were to be rated it would probably get an R rating.

Theatres and times will be announced soon. I am looking forward to showing this version as this is the way it was intended to be from the beginning. Keep checking the website for future showings.

Timeserver, the Independent Film by Sole Productions appears to be a hit! Shot entirely on location in Frankfort, New Lennox and Matteson, the film written and directed by Robert Alaniz premiered October 29th at the Rialto Square Theatre to a surprising 1,000 plus attendance! "It was incredible!' says Alaniz. "We never expected that many people! They had to call the police in to direct traffic outside the theatre because of the amount of people waiting for the limos to arrive." In true Hollywood style, the Cast, Producers and Director arrived in front of the majestic theatre in limousines to a large crowd of on-lookers, taking photos and asking for autographs. As the local celebrities entered the theatre, they were taken by the sight of the packed Rotunda where people congregated, waiting to enter the theatre. "It was so crowded, I could barely get through," says Alaniz. "I thought I might not get a seat to see my own movie."

"It was surreal," said Gary Gow of Oak Lawn, who plays the troubled character of Adam Taylor.

"Exiting the limo at the Rialto was an unforgettable experience. The overwhelming response from the crowd made me feel like a Hollywood celebrity. There must have been 200-300 people waiting outside," said leading actress Jodi London, who plays Kelly Wells.

Before the curtain rose, Director Alaniz addressed the audience. "Tonight is for the dreamers. Those out there who dare to pursue their dream, no matter what others might say. Many dreams will come true tonight." And as the curtain rose, the audience, who have never seen the film in its entirety cheered. The night however was not without technical problems. There were some sound and picture imperfections, but you never would have known it by the way the audience responded to the film as the story unfolded. It was a night the cast and crew will never forget.

Two days later, Timeserver began a special 5-day run at the Marcus Theatres in Orland Park. And again, the attendance was far beyond expectations. "We showed the film in a 100 seat theatre and with the exception of the Monday night showing (65 people), we filled the theatre each night, selling out 2 nights in a row," says Alaniz. "We even had to turn people away."

Timeserver tells the story of a wealthy Rock and Roll memorabilia dealer. His heartless existence is changed by the love of a wheelchair bound woman, Kelly, who shows him the value of love. The love story is accented with mystery as Adam, who is in therapy, deals with his intense hatred for his diseased father and a rival dealer obsessed with proving that the memorabilia that he sells is counterfeit. The cast includes Gary Gow, Jodi London, Riley Duhamel, Katherine Reed, Marie Kukalis, Gary Sugarman, Janet Bolero, Ralph Luchene, Samantha Kuebler, Samantha Rosell, Gina Guarino, and Katherine Trost. Tyrone Lancaster, originally from Joliet, composed the original music score.

All during production, Director Alaniz refused to comment on the movie itself. "I wanted to stay focused and let the audience be the judge of the final product," he says. "If the Rialto and Marcus showings are any indication of audience response, I think we got something."

People will have another chance to see Timeserver. There will be another 5-day engagement starting November 14 through 18 (Sunday - Thursday) at the Marcus Theatres in Orland Park. Showtime is 7 pm each night. Tickets are $10 and will available at the Box Office beginning at 6 pm. The film will be shown in a bigger theatre this run, but it is recommended that people get to the theatre early to guarantee seating.

Recently Director Robert Alaniz and Assistant Director Sabrina Ithal visited the Rialto Theater in Joliet. "We're hoping we can premiere the movie some place special," said Alaniz. "The Rialto Theater is beautiful. It would be a dream come true for all of us who worked so hard on this film over the past year to have the first showing there."

Plans for a Gala Premiere, with flashing lights, red carpet, limos, tuxedos and evening gowns, has been everyone's dream since the beginning.

"After our visit, Sabrina and I stood out in front of the building looking at the marquee, imagining what Timeserver - The World Premiere would look like that night. When I looked over at Sabrina, she had tears in her eyes. This is what dreams are made off. Hopefully we will be able to premiere it there," said Alaniz.

Director Robert Alaniz and the cast and crew of TIMESERVER join the parade through Frankfort during the Frankfort Fall Fest.

"It was quite an experience," Alaniz said. "We're going through the streets and a lot of people weren't sure what to make of us. The purpose of us being in the parade was to let the community know that the film was near completion and introduce the concept of Community Filmmaking to Frankfort."

"Community Theater has been around for many years," Alaniz continued. "Actors and actresses, young and old, who have been doing Stage Theater, will now have the chance to see what it's like to act in a movie. We hope that our presence in the parade was a good introduction."

TIMESERVER will premiere in November, with a showing in Frankfort planned soon there after.
